British Columbia bogus colour trial essays
attributed to Andre Frodel
These bogus colour trial essays of the British Columbia three pence issue of 1865 appeared in Fred Eaton’s auction sales shortly after
his trip to San Francisco, where he reportedly visited a Col. Scott. Kraemer reported that five zinc and one brass dies of the three pence
were sent to the National Postal Museum. The author is still in the process of examining these “essays” to determine how many different
types reached the philatelic market before the dies were turned over to the Vancouver Police by Eaton. The author has not seen any of these
back stamped “Forgery / Andre Frodel” with the exception of the 1 Dollar surcharged forgery in green. If you have any of these colour
trial essays, please send a 1200 dpi scan to the author.
